Nyquist Recording Studio

Facility

A view of the Studio from the outside. Here you can see the control room terrace, our engineers' smoking room! Also shown is the window to reverb chamber #1, a.k.a. the toilet! :) An hour’s drive south of Metro Manila, Nyquist is located at the heart of Santa Rosa’s bustling commercial district. The area is of utmost convenience, with shopping malls, parks, restaurants and bars, resorts, fast food chains, internet cafes, several hotels, cinemas, bowling alleys, music bars, a world-class amusement park, several churches, supermarkets, convenience stores, gas stations, banks and ATMs, all within a three-kilometer radius or so. Several bus and van terminals with destinations to most major destinations (Manila, Batangas, Cavite, or deeper into Laguna) are nearby. The Studio is inside a secluded compound, a quiet haven with plenty of parking spaces and privacy.

A view of the control room. Opposite the left pane is the iso booth while on the right is the live room. Contrary to popular belief, a great sound doesn’t result solely from good gear, it comes primarily from a great-sounding room, one that is carefully built and tuned. Nyquist is housed in a cozy 5.5×7 sqm sound-reinforced structure consisting of an 18 sqm live room, a 6 sqm iso room, and a 14 sqm control room. Modern design concepts were considered in the construction of the Studio that is consistent with today’s recording practices and techniques, from building isolation, air conditioning and room acoustics right down to the electrical layout, grounding and surge protection. With room acoustics for instance, reverberation was tuned to sweet levels, thereby giving the engineer the ability to record dry, and the option to add synthetic reverb after tracking.

The live room is a full-fledged practice room with its own dedicated mixer and PA system. We do not allow extended jam or practice sessions, however. Technical stuff aside, the live and iso rooms provide the artists and musicians that cozy feeling and relaxing ambiance that is so conducive to musical creativity and performance. It is like being inside your own home studio, it has none of that cavernous, eerie, intimidating atmosphere where you can’t do anything but mistakes. The control room layout itself lends to an efficiency of design such that adjustment to equipment depending on the producer and/or engineer’s idiosyncrasies and work habits will almost be unnecessary. You’ll feel right at home instantly here! :)

Here's a view of the the lounge. Outside the main studio rooms is an artist lounge where the rest of the band can relax while watching TV or their favorite DVDs (we have a huge collection of concerts and other music-related stuff!), or play games on a Sony PlayStation. Or log on to the internet via wifi. They can also play real dartboards, in case they despise virtual stuff… There is also a kitchen and a dining table in case anybody gets hungry, or feels like he needs a drink to get his musical mojos running. And of course, a pizza is just a phone call away…

Here's a view of the backside of the lounge. A newly-built terrace lounge is available beside the main live room. So now, in case of playing jitters, a smoking break is less than ten steps away!

Outside the studio building is a garden (the General Manager’s Garden to be precise!) with plenty of space and fresh air, perfect for relaxation (or napping!) during those intense sessions, the perfect place where you can spend your much-needed breaks. There is also a basketball court outside, in case you want to settle a musical dispute with our engineers (or your producer or band mates) on a game of one-on-one! Incidentally, this is also our engineers’ main "inuman" area during weekends.
